May 16, 1952 – June 29, 2026

William “Bill” Eccardt, age 74, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Bill was born on May 16, 1952, to James “Jim” and Margaret “Dot” Eccardt, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Rose Eccardt.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Karen Eccardt; his son, William “Bill” Eccardt; and his daughter, Kristen (Joe) Brewer. He was a proud and devoted Pappy to Payton, Barrett, and Belle Brewer, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was also blessed with numerous other grandchildren who were an important part of his life. Bill never wasted an opportunity to make his grandchildren laugh with his silly antics and playful spirit.

Bill is also survived by his siblings, Curt Eccardt, Richard “Rick” (Terri) Eccardt, and Karen Shaw, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Known affectionately as “Captain,” Bill loved nothing more than spending time out on the pontoon enjoying the water and the company of family and friends. He was also a lifelong and devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team.

Bill was blessed with many friendships that were much like family throughout the years, including a special bond with his close friend of 47 years, Chuck Kelly, whose friendship meant so much to him.

Bill will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, his friendship, and the many memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who loved him.

As a remarkable act of generosity and part of his lasting legacy, Bill chose to donate his body to science through Washington University School of Medicine to support medical education and future advancements in research and patient care.
