Willie Alfonzo Hervey
Willie Alfonzo Hervey was born on the 4th of July, 1926 in Dromas, Arkansas to the late Emmett and Isadora Hervey. He was raised by his stepfather, George Eskridge, Sr. and Isadora Hervey.
Willie was one of nine children, five of whom preceded him in death – Morris, Catherine E., Alice, Ellis and Jeanita.
Educated in Dromas, Arkansas, Willie loved school and enjoyed helping his classmates with their lessons.
Willie was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 17. He proudly served his country and returned home with the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal.
In 1942, Willie moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he met Margaret Crawley. In 1951, they were joined in holy matrimony. To this union two daughters were born and nurtured along with two sons.
Willie was a great father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was thrilled and excited to witness the addition to the family of his great great granddaughter, Aubrey. Willie loved his family dearly. He had a big heart and a clever sense of humor. He was a man of integrity, hard working, and dedicated to his employers.
After overcoming different afflictions, Willie lived a long and good life. Willie was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014.
Left to cherish his memories are two daughters, Alfreda Hervey Welch and Monica (Derrick) Jones; two sons, David (Dawn Tran) Hervey and Steve (Johnson Bey); life-long friend and companion Margaret Hervey; four grandchildren, John, Catrina, Jamond, and Jermayne; fourteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, Aubrey; one sister, Willie Johnson; two brothers, George (Patricia) Eskridge, Jr. and Fred (Amanda) Eskridge; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends.
