Rubilene Smith

05/07/1932-10/03/2020

Rubilene Smith was born to Otis T. and Edna Murray in Cherry, TN. She grew up as the 4th of eight children and spent her formative years in North Mounds, IL. She was fond of travel and adventurous in her young adult years; travel which took her to California and Florida to take care of family members which was very important to her. In her later years she settled to the humble life of a wife and mother in Hodges Park. Canning peaches and green beans, which she often got complements for, was one of her favorite activities. And music of the blues held a special place in her heart, a Friday night of friends and family coming over for a game of pokeno and BB King, her favorite artist, on the record player heard through out the house and chanted gives insight into the fun and loving person she was.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Smith, sons Dewayne E and Kelly Gene Smith, siblings Clennon Murray, Eula Murray, Maioma Hawkins, Cora Roddy, Pauline Roddy and Flora Jean Murray. She is survived by her sister Vera Roberson of Louisville, KY and sister in-law Ann Murray of San Diego, CA, children Wanda Kay Smith of Cape Girardeau, MO and James Allan Davis of Miramar, FL, grand-children Dawan, Kasheena, and Keihanna Smith, Chris and Bianca Johnson, Simuel and Jade Smith, 1 great grand-daughter, 2 great grand-sons, and a host of many nieces, and nephews

May you rest in peace. I can see that you were a beautiful person, mother and auntie. I look forward to hearing more of the family stories about you. I was told that you flew to California to help my mother with my oldest brother when he was born. God Bless you Auntie. Sending my prayers to James.

From The Murray California Family, Words can not express enough how much this loss means to me, but moreover, I feel I can safely speak for to my father, (Clennon; now deceased) Aunt Ruby’s only brother, and my mother (Ann; only Murray/Parker related sister-in-law) feels the same. I have known all my life how big of a heart she had. I have assessed that because of the love she had for her brother she sacrificed way back in 1952, and came all the way to California to help my mother with me while she was pregnant with my brother Thomas Otis (“Tommy”; named after Grandpa). My mom has always been very fond of Aunt Ruby for doing that for her. Recently she smiled while looking at the picture of Aunt Ruby holding me, and immediately recognized and acknowledged who she was. What a blessing to us all she has been. Aunt Ruby we love you, and we cherish and celebrate you for who you are and what you have always been to us all on your earthly visit with us. Now rest in peace in now your new heavenly home with your mother, father, brother, sisters and all other very close family and friends. Most Sincerely, Clennon “Wayne” Murray and The California Murray Descendants of Clennon Murray
